With the support of an informal group of citizens of Gradačac, the Tuzla Citizens' Forum held a roundtable in Gradačac on the topic of "Psychological Support in Police Departments - a Necessity, Not an Option".
Representatives of the Gradačac Police Department, informal groups of citizens, representatives of the media, NGOs, and the Gradačac City Council also participated in the roundtable.
This roundtable is part of the broader project "Empowered Institutions - Protected Women", which the Tuzla Citizens' Forum is implementing with the support of The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. Previously, as part of the project, an Initiative for the Employment of Psychologists in all police departments in the Tuzla Canton was created, as a key step towards strengthening institutional support for women experiencing violence.
Those present expressed their undoubted support for the presented initiative, emphasizing that it is necessary to adopt it and thus provide support and security to citizens who report domestic violence, but also to create adequate mechanisms for the response of police authorities in these high-risk and sensitive contexts.
The roundtable participants also expressed their great gratitude to civil society, organizations such as the Tuzla Citizens' Forum, and CFLI as donors, who recognize the importance of addressing and resolving this problem. Special emphasis was placed on the value of social concern and advocacy for improving the situation in this area, especially in communities that, like Gradačac, have witnessed femicide in the recent past and experienced the painful and cruel consequences of inadequate processing of cases of violence.
